Viva Fiesta Viva San Antonio

It’s Fiesta 2012 San Antonio! Time to break out your brightest guayabera, nicest broad-brimmed hat, tuxedos, ball gowns, and your largest bottle of Pepto. Fiesta is San Antonio at it’s finest, a multi-cultural celebration that truly features something for everyone. Now in it’s 121st year, Fiesta has grown from a single event, the Battle of Flowers parade, to a 10 day 100+ event celebration featuring parades, parties, royal coronations, fireworks, concerts, arts, crafts, food and fun. Lest we forget, the first Battle of Flowers Parade was held to commemorate the heroes of the Alamo and Battle of San Jacinto, you can refresh your knowledge of Fiesta history here.

Over the decades Fiesta has expanded in both scale and purpose and now all of the 100 events are co-sponsored by non-profit and military organizations which take in over $600,000 in charitable contributions during the 10 day celebration. These dollars are reinvested into the community through-out the year through myriad programs that touch the lives of thousands of San Antonio’s residents. A 2007 study by the Fiesta Commission estimated that the local economic impact of Fiesta was a remarkable $284 million dollars. A sum which rivals the $300 million that the New Orlean’s Convention and Visitor’s Bureau reports is generated by the two-week-long Mardis Gras celebration and the $350 million generated over a 24 day period during The State Fair of Texas in Dallas.

Fiesta is more than a good time, though it is that in spades. It is a nod to our past and a boost to our future. It is truly a celebration of all things San Antonio. Viva Fiesta and Viva San Antonio.
